On the 15th of January I got to the Detroit Airport heading to Frankfurt Germany. I checked in with the automated machine then headed to check in my luggage. I got to the counter and started talking to the girl working there. She was from Canada as well so we chatted a bit about that as she checked in my luggage. When I seen she had finished I asked her how much it would be for the 3 pieces...and she said "don't worry about it, and have a great day". I said "all of it"? She said yes. I couldn't believe that! I decided not to argue with her and just get in line to go through security. What a blessing that I didn't have to pay for all of that.
As I was in line to buy a muffin and a couple of bottles of water...the lady in front of me with 3 girls around 8-13 years old...long story but the girls ended up knocking over a display of fancy pens and breaking the container and a couple of the pens. The look on the poor girls face that was working there. I made sure to be really friendly and not make her day worse.
Once I got on the plane I found my seat and got all situated. The guy that was suppose to sit beside me never ended up sitting there. Kinda glad...he was creeping me out a bit. He must have had ants in his pants because he could not sit or stand still and we had not even left the airport yet. He kept on fidgeting with stuff and standing in the isle. Never sat his bum in the chair. He seemed to be more comfortable sitting on the arm of the chair with his legs crossed. He ended up finding another seat further back. YAY!!! So I had two seats all to myself.
The 7 hour flight was not to bad really. Slept a little, wrote in my journal, watched one of the ice age movies on the screen in front of me (there really was nothing else to watch). They served us all supper and breakfast. It was actually really good.
When we were all getting off the plane in Frankfurt I talked to a lady with a little girl that were heading home I believe. They just went to see Niagara Falls and she was telling me all about it and how beautiful it was. She went on and on about it and how much she loved it!!!
The Frankfurt Airport was huge! The signs were in German and English so that was really helpful. I was a little confused at first. But then I asked a couple of people then I was good to go. And just because your ticket says gate A40...that it will be close because its the beginning of the alphabet! Ya right! That was a good 15-20minute of SPEED walking...with two 2 elevators and using some of the fast track walking things. I can see why there were people using bicycles to get around that place.
When I got on the next plane to Madrid...we had not even finished boarding the plane. I was out like a light! And slept for about an hour. The flight was only about 2 1/2 hours. But it was a great nap! Even with that short of flight they served us all a hot lunch. I sat beside a lady in her early 30s and she was from Poland and we talked for a bit. She had only started learning English a couple of years ago. But she did pretty good!
Got to the Madrid Airport and found a cart and my luggage. I was greeted outside my David. Then we headed to the hotel were Rosa and the kids were at. We all seemed to hit it off great. Its been fun getting to know them all and each of their personalities.
The next morning we packed all of our stuff down stairs. All of our pieces of luggage in total was 16 pieces...and I only had 4 of that (2 big & 2 small). Yes we were a sight to see!!! We took two buses and two trains to get home. The big train we took went 300 miles/hr. It was so quiet I really didn't hear it much.
As we rode through much of the country side...some things that stood out were the thousands of olive trees. I seen two castles. And the animals I seen most often were horses, sheep, and cows.
When we got on the local train some of the things that I seen there were palm trees, different flowers, the Mediterranean, and different street signs. It's beautiful here and I am excited to see more
There was an older gentleman that I met named Pepe that the kids call grandpa. Such a sweetheart. Doesn't speak a word of English. But he was patient with me and we had a good chat.
I am pretty well settled in and have unpacked. The jet lag has not been to bad so far. But the first night I went to bed at about 8:00 because I was so exhausted. I slept for about an hour and then woke up...my body was like...that was a good nap!!! Ya I pretty much seen the clock every hour to 2 hours that night. But I have slept through the night since then. Praise the Lord!
Well...that's pretty much all for now!!!
